City Space Architecture and Genius Saeculi are actively engaged in promoting public space culture, through a series of projects and initiatives such as:

  • The Journal of Public Space, the first, interdisciplinary, academic, open access journal entirely dedicated to public space, developed in partnership with UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements programme;
  • Museo Spazio Pubblico / Public Space Museum, the first Italian-based research centre dedicated to collaborative and transdisciplinary approach to public space practice, merging art, architecture and technology into a complex new discipline;
  • Public Space Academy, the first educational programme entirely dedicated to public space, a transformative learning experience aimed at establishing a new approach to urban complexity built around public space, developed in cooperation with the Ove Arup Foundation. The Public Space Academy has been included in the Local Project Challenge (LPC), a project promoted by the Earth Institute, Center for Sustainable Urban Development at Columbia University in New York;
  • Past Present and Future of Public Space, international conference series taking place in Italy. The first conference took place in Bologna (2014), the second and the third conferences took place in Venice (2016 and 2018), the fourth conference took place in Venice in hybrid format (2021). A fifth conference will take place in Bologna in 2024, 10 years after the first successful one;
  • Mastering Public Space, a web-magazine hosting a collection of public space news in open access format from influential and reliable sources, curated by a cross-disciplinary team of public space researchers and experts committed to spread awareness on the importance of public space in cities.
