Age-friendly Public Spaces in African cities: Challenges and Opportunities

A virtual event that took place on 22 June 2023.

 

Hosted by the Africa Community of Practice of the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH), the webinar “Age-friendly public spaces in African cities: Challenges and Opportunities”, is part of the Urban Health in Africa ​​Networking and Webinar Series. In this webinar, the speakers share their experience with age-friendly cities, by describing what ‘age-friendly’ can mean in different contexts, and who are the actors involved in this field. They present existing or upcoming initiatives around navigating healthy public spaces sensitive to age-friendly concerns. Participants learned about the ongoing work at the new Centre for African Public Space and how the centre plans to embrace the age-friendly cities frame and also heard about WHO’s Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities and the work that is already being done among the existing members of the Global Network through the database of age-friendly practices.
